This breed heart testing scheme is run by volunteers, with cardiologists who kindly offer their services at a reduced daily rate. The cost for testing in 2025 is £110 per hound.
We are grateful for the continued support of owners, which is essential to keep these sessions running. Unfortunately, we are unable to hold clinics unless we reach the minimum number of bookings required.
This scheme offers exceptional value for money, providing a comprehensive three-part screening. The same tests, including Doppler examination, could cost up to £700 through an independent cardiology practice.
The scheme currently operates at a loss and is subsidised by the Health Group, whose priority is to make heart testing accessible to as many Wolfhound owners as possible.
PAYMENT (£110 per hound) IS BY BACS TRANSFER ONLY. Payment is non-refundable unless the session is overbooked or cancelled. Fees for hounds rehomed via the Irish Wolfhound Rescue Trust are paid by the IWRT. Veterans: the Irish Wolfhound Club kindly pays half of the fee for one screen per calendar year for all 7 year olds. Superveterans: hounds aged 8 + are entitled to one free screen per calendar year provided they are available for research programmes needing their input. The Irish Wolfhound Club kindly pays half of the fee for any second screen per calendar year. PAYMENT*
